financial support
There are still a significant number of foster carers in England who do not receive a fee for the work they do. There is also a chronic shortage of foster carers. But the trend now is towards recognition that paying foster carers a reasonable amount to cover the costs of fostering and to reward their work is not only fair but simply enables a lot more people to consider fostering as a career.
At PFC our foster carers receive between £355 and £450 per week for each child placed with them, depending on the child's age. This includes payments for the child's birthday, Christmas (or whichever major religious festival the child celebrates) and a contribution towards the costs of holidays. We also provide up 18 days per child paid break (respite) and we pay you to attend training sessions. All of these fees are revised annually.
Additionally, there are generous tax allowances available to all foster carers, whichever agency or local authority they may choose . Further details are given to all our applicants but can also be obtained from the HM Revenue and Customs website. As a general guide, anybody fostering one child throughout the whole year and receiving the payments outlined above will not be liable to pay any tax.
