Fostering has been described as an extreme sport! Lots of excitement, panic at times and, when it goes well, an unforgettable experience!
Could you do it?
We are not looking for 'one in a million' people. Lots more people could foster. You need to enjoy the experience of looking after children, be patient, flexible and .......... have a thick skin! You won't always be appreciated by the young people you are looking after, at least they won't tell you they do. You'll be caring for someone who often has been let down and even abused by adults who should have been the most reliable people in their lives. It's not easy to win back their trust. Sometimes things 'click' and seem to go well from the beginning, other times you'll have to work at it for weeks, months or even longer.
